Vegan Kitty Food

I just remembered that with my most recent Vegan Essentials order, I purchased some vegan cat food for my cat babies to try. When initially served, they seemed intrigued and were eager to try the food. But, that's only because they're complete fatties. I got them Evolution Cat Kibble, and they just weren't having it. I can't lie, I was kind of expecting that outcome, and I'm not going to force them to eat something that they don't like and simply refuse to eat. A pound of this stuff from Vegan Essentials is like, $4. Chances are your kitties are as spoiled as mine and won't really enjoy this.

Golabki and Dave Foley

I don't know why I was so intrigued with the concept of cabbage rolls, but I decided I had to make them today before I went to work. I'm a pretty big sucker for cooked cabbage. Weird? Not really, considering it's pretty much the only thing I can eat at work, given that I work in the mall. Everyday, it's steamed white rice and vegetables which consist of broccoli, carrots, and cabbage.
Now, take the time to enjoy the golabki montage. Also, note the filthiness that is my kitchen. Filthiness is totally a word:

Also, take time to say hello to my cooking pal, Bronson:

Cutest cat ever? Probably.

And, now, RANT: I have a complete and total love/hate relationship with Netflix. I only really love Netflix because of the instant queue thing for my 360. Here's what they do: they make the first season of every show, sometimes the second season, as well, available on your instant queue so that you can watch it compulsively on the rare days that you don't have class or work, the days where your agenda consists of cuddling with kitties and making cookies. Well, I rushed through the first two seasons of News Radio and I'm having Dave Foley withdrawls, damn it! I have a bit of a nerd crush on Dave Foley. I'm not sexually aroused by Dave Foley, I just love to watch him. Slightly more creepy? Point being: F U Netflix. You are forever the bane of my existence, while at the same time, the love of my life.

Come back to me, Foley! :(

I'd love to rant more, but I have a bus to catch.

Home Cooked Meals

This certainly has been a week of experiment. First, I would like to introduce you to my kitty guest:

Jax a.k.a. Jasper

Apparently, I'm my family's go-to gal for pet-sitting. This is my sister's cat baby, and quite frankly, he's not too nice. He's been at my apartment for about three days, and he only started cuddling with us today. What has my sister done to desensitize a cat in such a way? My theory was the stupid collar she forces him to wear. It's blue with a dangling jingle bell intended to alert you of when the kitty is near. I took it off and hid it from him today, and he has been much more pleasant since.

And, now- the food. I discovered Everyday Dish TV this week and it has been life changing. Not only are the recipes simple, recorded, and scrumptious, but I catch myself wishing that Julie Hasson was my mother when I was a youth.

"Breast of Tofu"

Hey, Bryana Clark Grogan, you're a friggin' goddess. After countless unsatisfying attempts at tofu preparation, I'm finally hooked! This is seriously the perfect food for me. It's easy and great for work nights when I get home some time around 11 p.m. I just set tofu strips to marinade right before I leave, coat it in the recommended flour mixture, fry it, and BAM! Dinner is served. The marinade and flour mixture keep refrigerated for up to a week. It's basically a poultry seasoned marinade. I served it with some roasted rosemary potatoes.

the final product.

Another Everyday Dish TV dinner? You got it. I haven't tried vegan ribz since last summer. I used tempeh and baked it in a coating of bbq sauce. BLAND!

This stuff, though. Sooooo nom. You really have to watch both the amount of olive oil you use and the progress of the side that is frying otherwise, well, you'll get a burned set of ribz. Like mine. Even a little crispy, they were still righteous and totally hit the spot. Along with homemade mashed potatoes and sweet corn.

nutty, smokey, tender, and chewey.

And, to finish the night off right, Red Bull Berry Smoothies. I miss you, Raw Times. :( Now, I have to do this myself.

I finally got my camera!

Based on the title, I'm sure you've guessed this post has nothing to do with food. I finally got my Canon Rebel XS and I'm beyond stoked. Yeah, I just said 'stoked.' Do somethin'. I really couldn't get over owning something that high quality and advanced. It's simply beautiful. Of course, I'm broke as hell now. Anyway, here is a series of unedited test shots I took upon getting my camera. Eeeee!

Obviously monochrome is the superior way to shoot. And, no, my mother's cat, Abby, is not demonic. Such pictures were brought to you by continuous shooting and Abby's need for a good yawn. Too cute. I know these pictures aren't great or anything, but much like my cooking, I'm still learning! And, I must say, I'm very excited about it.

Finally- the alfredo I've been craving.

Not much to post today, as I haven't really been cooking that much. First thing- the most awesome vegan Alfredo recipe I've tried since becoming vegan. Back when I was a dairy-eater (eww) Alfredo was my ABSOLUTE favorite food. Since becoming vegan, I had yet to try a vegan Alfredo recipe that tasted even remotely like real Alfredo. I was one sad vegan.

Until this past Wednesday..

I found this, like most recipes, on Vegweb. I did sub vegan Parmesan with nutritional yeast and it still ruled. So hard. I also has a limited amount of broccoli and absolutely no mushrooms. Dave would've been a sad boy had I snuck those in there. I mainly compensated produce with all of these frozen carrots I had that seriously needed to be used up.

This pasta was so good, we had it two nights in a row, the second night with wheat rotini. :)

Then the other night, I had these beauties. Again, more Vegweb. I really need to invest more time in my cooking and come up with some of my own creations. This recipe, though I nearly ruined it about twelve times, is great. It didn't come with an icing recipe, but these are so sweet and doughy and awesome, it really doesn't call for it.

Yummmmmm.

And, now I present:

KITTY CHAAAAAAIR!

CURSE YOU, LOW QUALITY HEWLETT-PACKARD!

Well, it's been fun, but I'm off to watch to watch a Rock of Love Bus episode that my mom recorded for me. Srsly. That show is so skanky, I contracted chlamydia just from watching it.

Newbie.

greetings and salutations, bloggers! along with my New Year's resolutions and what not, I figured I'd start a blog. I'm quite new to the blogging world, but I've been wanting to start one for quite a while, mainly to dedicate to fewd and various vegan recipes that I create, try, cook, etc.

a bit about myself:

I gave up meat August of 2007, but I've been vegan since last April. hey, it's almost been a year. whaddya know?

I live in Huntington with:

my love, Dave:
so camera-shy.

my kitties, Bronson:

and Mistress Ghoulita von Frankencat:

I really didn't care much about cooking until I became vegan. living in a house filled with omnivores, I kind of had to fend for myself, and I wanted it to be damn tasty. I've still got a bit to learn about cooking in general, though. here are a few things I have cooked in the past:

everything-but-the-kitchen-sink veg/noodle extravaganza.

carrob chip cookies ( a little overdone) :(

and way too much more.

I'm currently pursuing a degree in Print Journalism at MU. yeah. go herd, and stuff.

you'll find that I'm a cat freak of epic proportions and that I have a great appreciation for things such as ramen, cheap wine, and Alec Baldwin.

whew. I'm a little tired from all of that posting. how was that for an introduction?
